Purpose: The jobholder main purpose is to keep the store in safe and orderly manner, record all incoming items. All items should be classified and recorded on the computer in order all information would be accessible to all faculty in a satisfactory manner. He/She will be taking the responsibility for storing chemicals according to the hazards (toxicity, etc.)
Principal Accountabilities:
- Maintain chemicals in the store for teaching labs and order items to replenish used chemicals.
- Collect all information and quotations for chemicals in local and foreign markets
- Responsible for the arrangements of delivery or collection of chemicals/reagents at the agreed time
- Track delivery of chemicals/reagents from suppliers
- Ensure accurate accountability of all transactions to/from the stores
- Prepare purchase orders for materials in line with university procedures, standing orders and financial regulations.
- Periodic check of the quantities of chemicals/reagents in stock.
- Ensure safe handling of hazardous chemicals and maintain MSDS records for all chemicals
- Compile a list of addresses and telephone numbers of companies that supply the spectrum of items needed in teaching and research laboratories
- Getting rid of chemical wastes with aid of environmental companies
- Conduct any additional tasks assigned by the Department Chair
