The Chief Health and Safety Officer will provide strategic, visionary leadership, and progressive management for all environmental health and safety functions inclusive of emergency planning. The Chief Officer will ensure meeting world-class standards. The scope of responsibility covers both university campuses as well as other AUC owned or leased facilities.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Provide subject matter expertise on environmental health and safety issues to Universitys administration and the overall community.
- Set the vision, strategy, and direction for the Universitys environmental health and safety with a strategic understanding of future needs.
- Lead, develop, implement and maintain all environmental health and safety programs, policies and procedures based on leading indicators and actions.
- Create a safety culture by developing safety systems, policies and procedures, safety campaigns, and programs to eliminate, prevent/control hazards, acts or behaviors.
- Lead the development of the university systems and required enhancements to support tracking and reporting of health & safety records. Conduct trend analysis and sets a system for compliance documentation.
- Set and enforce campus safety plans including all campus locations that involves student, faculty and staff (i.e. school labs and workshops, maintenance workshops, athletics facilities, student housing, faculty housing etc
- Overview assessments, inspections and audits to monitor compliance with H&S protocols.
- Partner with other offices to ensure that corrective and/or preventive measures are installed, completed and maintained.
